Professional Excellence and Business Communication

Client: An Indian application development firm

Appreciation received from the CEO that there was an evident difference in his team’s behaviour and an improved accountability.

The Challenge:

The employees had not attended any formal training session so they had a reluctant approach towards learning. The learners were entry level software programmers, senior software programmers, team leaders and managers.

Most of the learners were entry level software programmers and since there was no formal induction, they displayed unprofessional behaviour eg. not being mindful of their tone while chatting with their co-workers, littering the office premises, not wearing formal clothing. The managers lacked accountability and did not want to address the growing behaviour concerns of their teams.

The Solution:

Training Needs Analysis:

We first had a one-on-one session with the HR manager to get a detailed understanding of the organisation culture and their expectations from the team. Later, we divided the learners in two groups one being the software programmers and the other being the team leaders and managers. We conducted separated meetings with the teams to understand the challenges they face at work and gave them a bespoke questionnaire to understand their attitude towards learning.

Training intervention:

We conducted a highly engaging training program by blending experiential learning and spaced learning methodology over a period of 2 months.

Some of the modules covered in the training program were:

  • Grooming oneself as per corporate standards

  • Developing personal accountability

  • Writing effective emails at work

  • Building rapport through strong collaboration

Learning implementation:

We shared bite-sized modules of best practices to aid retention of key concepts learnt in the training session.

These modules were shared to the learners immediately after each training session.

Learning Measurement:

  • To gauge retention of the core concepts, we created assignments for each key concept which were shared after the training session with a deadline attached to it.

  • We conducted 2 one-on-one coaching sessions after each month.

Impact:

Halfway through the training, we noticed an evident change in their appearance and their attitude towards their co-workers. This change was noticed by the CEO for which we received an appreciation.

  • 70% of the learners proactively started addressing clients’ needs

  • 99% of the learners reported that the learnings had helped them more productive at work.
